    I actually tried this in 2017 and it worked the recipe being 10 heaped tea-spoons of coffee and 5 heaped tea-spoons of washing soda, aka sodium carbonate without vitamin 'C'. The film was 400 ASA B&W and 25 years past the 'develop by' date. In case some folks are unsure, baking soda, bicarbonate, is not sufficiently alkaline. The DIY aspect is good. I have no idea how much regular developer costs these days but coffee that works is nevertheless not dirt cheap. That said, in the early days all manner of ingredients were used as developer but I would stay clear of mercury vapour!!!

  • @Andratos95

    Just to make sure I got it… you take a reading of the shadows and then remove 2 stops from there. You take the picture at that exposure. You then take a reading of the highlights and add 2 stops. You check how far these values for highlights and shadows are from each others in terms of stops. If less than 5, develop longer; if more, develop less. Is that it?

    My favorite lens on my 4x5 cameras has become my 135mm. That always seems to have the field of view that matches my sense of what is right. It has become on 4 x 5 what my 35mm is on 35mm cameras. This is usually very individual.

    one other point, the side of the darkslide matters, WHITE for Unexposed film BLACK for used or exposed film, so you don't inadvertently double expose, or worse, not expose a sheet of film.

  • @andyvan5692
    @andyvan5692 Месяц назад

    mat one other possible reason for the 'double darkslide' name for these holders is to differentiate them from wet/dry plate holders used in older cameras (this has ONE darkslide)-the other is just to load the plate of glass in the holder, so only ONE exposure!; whereas in 'normal' holders of today, they take two exposures.

    i love this video! i picked up a 1955 Crown Graphic last year. i shot a roll of 120 in a roll film back (6x7) and i just finished up my first 10 sheets of Tmax100. i found one of these with septums for $125 on the 'bay and just put in an offer for $115. we'll see what happens! beautiful models you have too.

    hey! i just found you, looking for more information on this exact film stock. ive only ever (just last week) processed 4x5 sheet film in trays. ONE SHEET AT A TIME, because after nearly 40 years im finally getting a darkroom of my OWN (vs college, 2 newspapers and 8yrs Air Force darkrooms). it was what was available after i used my last (of 10 sheets) of Tmax 100. im going on a once in a lifetime tour next weekend for a very very short 1-1/2 hour visit and in addition to shooting digital, im taking my Crown Graphic with me. would i be better off sending this film out to get processed do you think? i have a daylight tank and holders enroute to me but ive never done sheet film in those. if i do it myself, currently i only have Ilfosol-3 on hand. using corresponding asa/development times, i did the Tmax 100 for 5:30 @ 68oF. im sure i could come up with the proper time, but now that you say the emulsion might be fragile around the edges and my developer is not one of those you mentioned, im starting to get the jitters. i dont have time to try a couple of sheets and i dont have time to order in any other film. dang. failure to plan much? i DO really have a clue as to what im doing. i think any help you can throw my way!!!

    nice job, esp. when you say what you have, in lenses, etc. One Tip, at 6:40 or thereabouts you should take the lens OFF the camera, and add filters/holders then, esp. if off a balcony, ledge, bridge, etc. to save the loss of the item, if it slips from ones' fingers during instillation.

    Mat, at 7:34 you glossed over a few points re lenses, lens CAPS and the cloth wrap, are very important to protect your lenses, when I got my 65 f5.6 Fujinon SWD the store staff was very persuasive and gave me a deal making demo of the new wraps (magnetic, sticks to itself, so the lens can't fall out!), filter thread size, and if a filter (uv, or ND) is included to save scratches, but also to determine size for future filter system requirements. one more thing, with the camera body section, FILM Size, as a 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" camera back, can ONLY take MF backs!, as the sheet film is no longer cut in that size!- or is a special order.
